The Comptroller’s Department is responsible for a wide range of financial and administrative functions, outlined below. Comptroller Responsibilities
- Auditing payments to vendors to insure compliance with the law and to insure amounts are within budgetary limits.
- Processing payrolls and related payroll taxes, including required tax returns.
- Administering and coordinating employee benefit plans.
- Distributing monthly reports showing the financial condition of the Town to the Town Board.
- Maintaining accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP).
- Preparing and submitting the Annual Financial Report Update (AUD) to the New York State Comptroller’s Office.
- Investing funds to achieve maximum rate of return and safety of principal.
- Interacts with lending institutions to obtain funds as authorized by the Town Board.
- The Comptroller acts as the Town budget officer, coordinating the preparation of the annual budget and capital plan, including presenting them to the taxpayers at the budget hearing.
- Auditing of departments that receive money.
